You guys! A good meal makes me very excited! 👏 And the restaurants in Vík are something to write home about.
I’m obsessed with this little town in South Iceland. It’s such a popular overnight stop whether you’re doing the South Coast itinerary or the full Ring Road.
I’ve been here so many times and get asked often where to grab a bite to eat.
So here’s a list of the best restaurants in Vík, Iceland, to help you eat well during your stay.
Where Can You Get Good Value / Cheap Food in Vík?
1. The Soup Company, Vík
What started off as a food truck many years ago has since turned into a thriving Vík restaurant focusing on soups.
The signature goulash soup here is called Red Hot Lava…very fitting for Iceland! 😀 Other favorites include the traditional lamb or curry fish soup.
Everything looks good, so if you can’t pick one, they’ve got a tasting menu where you can choose between three different soups.
You can opt to have your soup served in a black bread bowl, so yummy!
They also serve salads, paninis, and nacho bowls, but the soups really are the standout item here.
Give me warm crusty bread with melted butter and a delicious bowl of soup any day!

2. Restaurant Sudur Vík (Suður-Vík)

This is one of our favorite places to eat in Vík and we always make a point of stopping here when we’re in town. We ate here on our honeymoon many moons ago, so the nostalgia always hits HARD.
You’ll recognize it as an old farmhouse with a blue roof. The atmosphere is homey and inviting, and you can just FEEL that it’s family-run. The decor is quaint with antique furniture and wood finishes, and the food is ah-mazing.
There’s an option to sit upstairs, and you’ll get amazing views of the town and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks.
If you like fish, the cod is great, but they also serve hamburgers and lamb. You can never go wrong with lamb in Iceland, btw!
This was also the first place we ever tried cheese pizza with jam in Iceland. Go ahead, call me crazy, but it’s sooo good.
Since it’s a really popular spot in Vík, and you need to make reservations early if you want a table.

3. Wok in Vík
When you’re looking for fresh, healthy Asian flavors, Wok in Vík is hard to beat.
The portions are good, making it great value for money.
Dishes include various types of noodles, or rice with tasty toppings.
You can choose between chicken, beef, prawn, and their meat dishes can be replaced with tofu. Alternatively, they have vegan options on the menu too.
P.S. Their Pad Thai is fantastic!

Breakfast and Coffee in Vík
4. Skool Beans, Vík
This might be one of Iceland’s coolest coffee shops. It’s got one of the cutest setups I’ve ever seen.
You walk up into a yellow school bus and order your coffee, which is absolutely DIVINE! Then you take a seat in the bus, which is adorably decorated. If it’s a nice day out, you can also find a spot outside at the picnic tables.
Skool Beans roasts their own coffee beans, but if you’re not a coffee lover, they have a ton of other fun drinks to choose from.
They’re famous for their hot chocolate with 14 different flavors. Yes, 14!
They also have matchas and teas. Their menu is HUGE and they have freshly baked goods available, too.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, which made our experience even better! This is an absolute must when you’re visiting the black sand beach, Dyrhólaey, Katla, or staying over in Vík.

5. Crepes Food Truck (Crepes.is)
If you’re driving along on Austurvegur in Vík… you can’t miss it.
There’s a sign that says Crepes Food Truck, but it looks more like a mini black turf house with a green roof.
Another dead giveaway is that there’s usually a queue of people waiting for their crepes, even in the rain.
It’s well worth the wait, I promise!
You can opt for the sweet crepes like Nutella, banana and Prince Polo, or savory crepes like the mozzarella, olives, pesto and ham & cheese.
Reynisfjara Beach and Dyrhólaey are only a short distance away and popular spots for couples to exchange vows and take photographs.
Don’t be surprised if you see couples in full wedding gear grabbing crepes here!

6. Halldórskaffi
The house where Halldórskaffi is located holds historical significance as one of the oldest permanent buildings in Vík.
Expect great coffee and homemade cakes for a snack, or they also have an extensive menu of fish, pizza, lamb and burgers.
It’s especially nice to visit if you love old buildings and the history behind a place.
Halldórskaffi is a favorite spot among locals…that’s all the convincing I need!

7. Lava Bakery and Coffee / Ice Cave Bistro
Both the bakery and bistro are run by the same team and are found in the Lava Show building.
In case you didn’t know, Vík is home to the Icelandic Lava Show, where rock from Katla’s 1918 eruption is reheated to over 1,100°C and poured out right in front of you.
While this happens, a narrator gives a fascinating account of what happened during the eruption. It’s so much fun and something I suggest you do while you’re here. My little ones LOVE it, and it’s equally entertaining for adults, too.
If you take the tour, this is a convenient stop to grab brunch or a quick snack.
They’ve got a selection of pastries, sandwiches, flavored coffee, and more. And if you want something a little more filling, then the Ice Cave Bistro serves everything from soups and burgers to stews!

9. Smidjan Brugghus (Smiðjan Brugghús)
This place has everything you’re looking for in a pub and grill: BBQ ribs, hot wings, craft beer – and their burgers are unreal!
Smiðjan Brugghús is another restaurant in Vík that comes highly recommended. Brewing craft beer is their passion, and they even offer brewery tours.
You’ll be impressed by their selection and flavor, so make sure you stop at Smiðjan Brugghús if you’re a beer enthusiast or self-proclaimed beer snob.

Pizza in Vík, Iceland
11. Black Crust Pizzeria Vík

I don’t know about you, but when the pizza craving hits me, nothing else will satisfy it.
Black Crust Pizzeria is one of the busiest restaurants in Vík, and when they say black crust pizza, they’re not kidding!
Taking their inspiration from the black sand beaches close by, they decided to use activated charcoal to give the dough its signature charred look.
They really have some unique flavors, like the langoustine and cream cheese truffle-infused pizza (with other toppings). Or, check this out: they have a marinated duck with cream cheese, spring onion, orange, cashew nuts, and chili.
I know what I’m getting next time!
At this rate I’ll be happy just eating my way through Vík. 🤤

Fancy Restaurants in Vík
12. Drangar Restaurant Vík
Sometimes, all you want is to put on some lip gloss, do your hair up real nice (while praying for no wind), and have a fancy dinner.
That’s what you’ll get at Drangar Restaurant, located at Hotel Kría. We’ve eaten here before while road-tripping the South Coast, and the food has blown me away!
The views from the restaurant are breathtaking. There are floor-to-ceiling windows letting in all the light and gorgeous views. If you’re traveling in winter, you’ll be able to see the aurora from the hotel!
Their Icelandic beef dish is delicious. For a fun, decadent dessert, try the Vík Chocolate Rocks (a passion fruit gel with cocoa “soil” and green sponge). I know it wouldn’t last long on my plate. 😉
It’s definitely a culinary experience.

13. Berg Restaurant Vík, Iceland
They’ve got good cocktails and Icelandic cuisine with a modern twist presented beautifully. It’s almost too pretty to eat… almost!
Berg Restaurant is located in Hotel Vík í Mýrdal, a modern hotel set in stunning surroundings.
Their Arctic char and crème brûlée cheesecake were the items that stood out to me, but everything looks REALLY good.
Their bar is open until 11:00 P.M., and they have Happy Hour between 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. if you want to get a few drinks before your dinner in Vík, Iceland.
