What Kind Of Souvenirs to Buy in Iceland

If you’re ready to bring authentic gifts from Iceland home, here’s a list of souvenirs in Iceland you’ll want to keep in mind.

1. Icelandic Wool

One of the best Iceland souvenirs you can buy is anything made from Icelandic wool.

The classic Lopapeysa (traditional Icelandic sweater) is a fantastic choice, and honestly, it’s the best sweater I own, but it is a bit pricey.

If you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, there are plenty of wool items to consider. Think hats, mittens, scarves, and even adorable baby booties.

The wool here is known for its warmth and quality, making it the perfect Icelandic souvenir to keep you cozy long after your trip.

💥 I still recommend getting a genuine Lopapeysa though. The expert workmanship that goes into each one can’t be beat.

They’re water-resistant, incredibly high quality, and come in so many styles.

2. Icelandic Candy

One of the most popular souvenirs from Iceland for a sweet-toothed traveler is Candy.

Icelanders love their sweets, so much so that they even have a “Candy Day” on Saturdays, where the bulk section in the supermarket goes on sale – 50% off!

Chocolate on sale? Now you’re talking!

Icelanders also love licorice, so they find a way to put it in a lot of things.

Icelandic chocolate liquorice is the most famous. It’s perfect for that salty-sweet balance.

Also, don’t miss Omnom chocolate.

Their factory shop is located in Reykjavík but they have retailers and partners all over the world.

This brand makes so many delicious flavor combinations that’ll have you hooked!

Packaged in adorable little jars, these salts come in unique flavors like smoky and savory—perfect for gifts or your own kitchen!

What makes them even cooler is that they’re sourced straight from Iceland’s local seas.

You can easily find them in souvenir shops in Iceland or even in the local grocery stores.

4. Icelandic Jewelry

Jewelry lovers, listen up!

How cool would it be to bring home a unique piece from your trip?

If you’re looking for lava jewelry, Iceland is the place to find it!

Crafted from – you guessed it – lava rock, these pieces perfectly embody the ‘fire’ part of Iceland’s fire and ice name.

For stunning artisanal designs, check out Aurum in downtown Reykjavík. They make really beautiful pieces.

If you’re on a budget, head to Kolaportið flea market for unique and affordable finds.

5. Liquor

Looking to bring home some Icelandic spirits? Here are a few great options:

Reyka Vodka: It’s made by filtering Icelandic glacier water through lava. If that doesn’t make it one of the most unique and best gifts from Iceland, seriously, I don’t know what does!

Beer: If beer is more of your thing, grab a few bottles from my favorite brewery, Einstök. They have quite a few varieties to choose from.

Icelandic Schnapps: You can also pick up a bottle of Iceland’s famous schnapps, Brennivín, which pairs perfectly with fermented shark (definitely an acquired taste, but hey, when in Rome!).

I keep a bottle of Brennivín in the freezer at all times and I reckon it’s another unique gift from Iceland.

Their face masks, body scrubs, lotions, and candles are all-natural, and super soothing for your skin – and they smell divine!

8. Decor Items

I love Icelandic design.

It’s typically Scandinavian – minimal and clean.

If you’ve dreamt of decorating your home with beautiful Icelandic pieces, I suggest visiting Kraum for an Iceland souvenir.

It’s a high-end store where you’ll find decorative glass, home decor, wooden design and even jewelry,

It’s one of the best souvenir shops in Reykjavík for unique designs and can be found inside  Reykjavík’s oldest still-standing house.
