5 reasons to add Ingolfskali to your itinerary
1. It’s a turf house
I know you guys love a turf house and THIS is the turf house of all turf houses! Also note the carving decoration on the wood. The attention to detail is very impressive. It really makes you appreciate how the Vikings lived back in the day!
2. Axe throwing + archery
I’ll tell you right now that these sports are NOT my strong suit in life but did I feel like an actual Viking throwing an axe at a board? YES! The bow is made by a local, and Andri takes time to explain the technique. Playing these outdoor games was the perfect start to our Ingólfsskáli experience.
3. Viking theme longhouse
If you want to feel like you are in an authentic Viking longhouse, look no further. Everything inside from the fur and shield decor to the hammered silverware makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time 1,000 years. The staff is dressed up in traditional clothing and they teach you about Icelandic history throughout your experience. Oh, and did I mention that you get to drink beer from a horn?!
4. Delicious local food
OMG the food! I LOVED the food at Ingólfsskáli. Everything was made with local ingredients and the meats are freshly caught or hunted by Gunnar the owner. For me, this was the most surprising part of the day. This is what makes it an experience to visit Ingólfsskáli, not just a restaurant.
5. Perfect location
Ingólfsskáli is located in South Iceland just off the Ring Road between Hveragerði and Selfoss. You cannot drive by this place and not stop! If you don’t have time for the full experience, at least stop by to drink beer from a horn. This is an experience you will never forget.
So what are you waiting for? Reserve a table at Ingólfsskáli!
