3 Reasons NOT To Go To The Blue Lagoon In Iceland 3 Reasons NOT To Go To The Blue Lagoon In Iceland 🙅‍♀️

👉 Price: The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most famous attractions, and because of this, it’s on the pricier side. If budget is a big concern, you might want to skip this!

👉 Crowds: If you hate crowds and would prefer to visit destinations where you can actually FEEL Iceland’s untouched beauty, the Blue Lagoon might not be for you.

👉 Touristy: No surprise here — the Blue Lagoon draws in thousands of tourists every year. Over time, it’s evolved into more of a high-end spa resort than a natural hot spring. With constant upgrades, added bars, cafés, and fancy packages, it’s feeling less Icelandic and more… curated.

Not to mention all the nearby volcanic activity — getting evacuated on vacation isn’t exactly ideal. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you really want to go to the Blue Lagoon, you should still do it (I do still love it!)

But there are dozens of other geothermal pools around Iceland that are just as memorable, way less crowded, and way easier on your wallet.

If you’d rather soak like the locals and explore the more authentic side of Icelandic pool culture, I’ve got you covered…

In my Iceland Guidebooks + Maps, I’ve marked all my favorite lesser-known hot springs — the ones that are rustic, scenic, and totally worth the detour.

Chaos? I don’t know her. 💁‍♀️💁‍♀ Chaos? I don’t know her. 💁‍♀️💁‍♀️💁‍♀️

When you’ve got drive times dialed in, hidden gems mapped, and rest stops pinned BEFORE you land — suddenly, Iceland feels a whole lot more peaceful.

I don’t plan every detail just to be extra (okay, maybe a little 😉). I do it because having a SOLID plan means more time soaking in hot springs and less time stressing over where to find the nearest gas station.

With these itineraries, you’re not just getting a list of stops. You’re getting:

✔️ Realistic drive times between each location
✔️ Seasonal tips so you don’t show up to a trail that’s closed or a road that’s impassable
✔️ Food, bathroom, and gas stop recs where you *actually* need them
✔️ Hidden gems and local favorites you’d never find on TripAdvisor
✔️ Day-by-day structure that keeps you on track but leaves space for adventure

These plans are crafted with care, years of experience, and the little things that make a HUGE difference when you’re actually on the road in Iceland.

Because the best way to stay relaxed in Iceland… is knowing every detail’s already handled. 💁‍♀️
