What is the weather like? What are the road conditions?

This itinerary perfects the timing of each day. Research still needs to be done to understand Icelandic weather, driving rules, etc. All of this information can be found in my guidebooks.

Spending the holidays in Reykjavík? Here are 5 fes Spending the holidays in Reykjavík? Here are 5 festive + cozy things to do while you’re here 🎄❄️

Whether you’re traveling with kids, as a couple, or solo with a love for twinkle lights and holiday magic, Reykjavík in December seriously delivers

💚 Here’s what to add to your must-do list:

⛸️ Go ice skating at the Christmas village
Each year, Ingólfstorg Square turns into a full-on holiday scene with music, lights, a Christmas market, and an ice skating rink. You can rent skates for around $8 USD, and kids learning to skate can use plastic seals for support!

🎄 Catch a holiday concert at Harpa
Already a Reykjavík icon, Harpa Concert Hall gets even more magical during the holidays. It’s decked out with trees, lights, and free concerts every Saturday leading up to Christmas.

✨ Wander the decorated streets
Downtown Reykjavík feels like a Christmas village come to life. Streets like Laugavegur and Skólavörðustígur are lit up with bells, twinkle lights, and even projections of the Yule Lads on the buildings after dark — it’s festive everywhere you look.

🎅 Send a letter to the Icelandic Santa
The Little Christmas Shop (Litla Jólabúðin) is an adorable place to go for any Christmas decor. Right outside their shop is a big red mailbox. Here you can send a letter to the Icelandic Santa Claus – the kids love this!

☕ Warm up with something cozy
After a chilly walk through the city, duck into one of Reykjavík’s many cafés. You’ll find warm drinks, homemade treats, and the perfect spot to thaw out and recharge.

Which one are you adding to your holiday bucket list? Let me know in the comments 👇

Your Iceland planning Wrapped is here! Which slide Your Iceland planning Wrapped is here!
Which slide felt the most accurate for you?
Let’s do it all again next year 🫶🏼
The secret to stress-free winter travel? Planning The secret to stress-free winter travel?
Planning around the daylight hours.

By mid-December, Iceland gets just 4–5 hours of daylight per day. And around the winter solstice (December 21st), it’s the darkest time of the year.

And if your itinerary doesn’t plan for this, you’ll be in for a serious wake‑up call when you look at your jam-packed schedule and realize half of it isn’t actually possible. Shorter days mean every stop, drive, and photo op needs to be timed intentionally. ✨

Because there’s nothing worse than pulling up to that bucket-list stop you’ve been dreaming about, ready to get your perfect shot, only to be met with…total darkness 🌑

That’s exactly why I created my Iceland Winter Itineraries. They're built specifically for this season, with:
✔️ Day-by-day plans that match actual daylight hours
✔️ Driving routes that make sense for winter road conditions
✔️ Built-in buffer time (so you're not rushing or skipping stops)
✔️ Only locations that are open and accessible in winter

You don’t need to cram your schedule or guess what’s realistic. The timing’s already figured out—down to when you should hit the road and how long to spend at each stop.

That way you can focus on ALL the wintery, Icelandic magic—without the “wait… can we even DO all this today?” energy.

Curious about what a perfectly-planned winter trip to Iceland looks like?

Just comment “ICELANDPLAN” and I’ll send you all of the deets on my done-for-you itineraries! 👇🏼

Part 2 of the Icelandic Christmas chaos you didn’t Part 2 of the Icelandic Christmas chaos you didn’t know you needed. 😂

Iceland has 13 troll brothers who show up one by one before Christmas… and not a single one is normal.

From slamming doors to stealing sausages from the rafters, let’s just say each Yule Lad has his own weird little quirks.

If you missed the first 6, go watch Part 1 on my profile. Here come the next 7!

👇 And let me know in the comments:

Which Yule Lad would you be?

Personally, I’m 100% Skyrgámur — I’d eat a whole tub of Skyr and still want more.

They come one by one. They love treats. And they’r They come one by one.
They love treats.
And they’re not above licking your dirty dishes. 😂

Meet Iceland’s Yule Lads — 13 mischievous brothers who descend from the mountains one by one in the nights leading up to Christmas.

Kids leave shoes in the window hoping for snacks… but if they’ve been naughty, they’ll wake up to a potato instead. 🥔

Here are the first 6:
👉🏼 Stekkjastaur – he tries to sneak into sheep pens but struggles with stiff legs.
👉🏼 Giljagaur – he hides in gullies and steals milk from barns.
👉🏼 Stúfur – he carries a shovel to dig through snow and reach shoes.
👉🏼 Pottasleikir – he licks leftovers from unwashed pots.
👉🏼 Þvörusleikir – he steals long wooden spoons and licks whatever’s left on them.
👉🏼 Askasleikir – he hides under beds waiting to lick leftover food from bowls.

That’s the first 6 Yule Lads — 7 more arrive after them.

Part two drops tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Who else kinda loves how much weirder (and wackier) these guys are than regular Santa? 😂👇

If you’re visiting Reykjavík in December, don’t sk If you’re visiting Reykjavík in December, don’t skip this.

Just 15 minutes away in the town of Hafnarfjörður, Jólaþorpið is a festive little Christmas market that locals LOVE! 🎄

There are handmade gifts, hot drinks, holiday treats, and even horse-drawn carriage rides. Expect live music, dancing, the occasional Yule Lad sighting 👀 and plenty of Christmas cheer without the downtown crowds.

It’s open every weekend leading up to Christmas (Fridays 5–8 PM, Saturdays 1–8 PM, Sundays 1–6 PM) and entry is totally free.

✨ Bonus: There’s a small ice rink across from the library and a nearby park lit up with lights — perfect if you’re traveling with kids (or if just want to feel like you’ve stepped into your own Christmas movie!)

Who else is a total Christmas market lover? 🙋‍♀️

Most regrets from travelers who visited Iceland in Most regrets from travelers who visited Iceland in the winter sound like this:

👉🏼 “We didn’t know it would be closed.”

👉🏼 “We ran out of daylight.”

👉🏼 “We thought we could squeeze in more.”

It’s usually not because people didn’t plan. It’s because they followed a plan that wasn’t BUILT for winter.

Winter in Iceland plays by different rules…

And limited daylight, seasonal closures, and unpredictable weather can seriously impact your trip if you're not prepared for them.

That’s why I created winter-specific itineraries that account for all of it — so you’re never stuck guessing or scrambling.

If you’re traveling to Iceland between October & A If you’re traveling to Iceland between October & April, read this before you go 👀

Iceland’s winter weather is seriously unpredictable.

One minute it’s clear skies, the next, roads are closed due to snow or wind.

That means your itinerary isn’t always 100% set in stone — and if you don’t have a solid Plan B, you might find yourself scrambling for alternatives at the last minute.

Here’s how to prepare for the unexpected:

👉🏼 Check the forecast daily (but still expect surprises!)

👉🏼 Have backup activities - cafés, museums, and indoor pools can save the day

👉🏼 Know your alternate routes & accommodations in case you need to pivot

👉🏼 Have a resource that helps you adjust on the fly (because Googling last-minute ISN’T fun!)

✨ That’s exactly why my Iceland Maps + Guidebooks are a game-changer. They give you:

📍 Instant access to backup activities (cafés, museums, spas & more)

🍽️ Hotel & restaurant recs if you need to change locations

🚙 Road trip essentials — gas stations, rest stops & hidden gems, all in one place

Don’t let the weather ruin your trip. Stay prepared & stress-free! 💚
