Reykjavík, the Golden Circle, and the Ring Road are all accessible, with well-maintained roads. You can still visit stunning waterfalls, glaciers, and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon without any trouble! ❌ The not-so-good news? The Highlands – including Þórsmörk and Landmannalaugar – are off-limits during winter. These areas won’t be accessible until summer. 🤔 And the Westfjords? With heavy snowfall and tough road conditions, this region is best left to expert drivers. Most travelers should skip it in January. For example: 🌬️ Black sand beaches: High winds = sand in your face. Pack sunglasses or protective eyewear to shield your eyes. 💧Waterfalls: Freezing temps lead to icy paths. Pack crampons or Yaktrax to avoid falls and stay on your feet. ❄️ Snow-covered paths: Deep snow can soak through shoes fast.
