Planning a quick stopover in Iceland? SWIPE 👉🏼 for tips on how to make the most of it!

Stopping in Iceland on the way to Europe has become popular thanks to the IcelandAir Stopover program, which allows you to add on an Iceland layover at no extra cost.

And I mean, let’s be real - who WOULDN’T want to have 2 vacations for the price of one?! 😍

While ideally, you need 7-14 days to really appreciate what this beautiful country has to offer, a few days, (or heck, just a few hours!) is better than nothing.

But be warned: once you’ve had a taste, you’ll want to come back for more! 😉

2. I’d look up daylight hours for the season so I’d know how much time I actually had to explore

3. I’d check the season before planning anything. Some sites just aren’t accessible year-round, and others (like the Northern Lights) only happen in specific windows.

4. I’d choose a travel pace that matches how I like to explore instead of simply jamming in as much as possible.

5. I’d make sure a digital map handy —  not just for navigating, but to easily find restaurants, restrooms, and gas stations in remote areas!

6. I’d skip the touristy hot springs and head to local pools or lesser-known hot pots.

7. I’d build buffer time into my itinerary for snack breaks, photo opps and even spontaneous detours.

8. I’d pack layers. And then pack more. Even in summer!

9. I’d plan out where to grab food ahead of time, because in some areas, there’s nothing for miles, and you don’t want to find that out when you’re already hungry.

10. I’d get guidance from someone who’s actually an expert—so I don’t waste time, miss key stops, or stress about planning.

I know all of this now, but when I first traveled here, no one was really talking about these things.

I had to dig through endless internet forums, cross-reference outdated blog posts, and learn a lot of lessons the hard way—missed turns, closed roads, and more than one “we should’ve planned this better” moment.

That’s exactly why I created my Iceland Maps + Guidebooks.

So you don’t have to make the same mistakes I did—and so you can avoid the overwhelm and fully ENJOY the trip you’ve been dreaming about!

Think you’ve seen it all in Iceland? Think again Think you’ve seen it all in Iceland? Think again. 👀

East Iceland is the kind of place that quietly steals the show — with storybook villages, cliffs dotted with puffins, and canyons that look like they belong on another planet.

And somehow… barely any crowds. 🙌🏼

Swipe through for 6 unforgettable stops that deserve a BIG spot on your Iceland itinerary 💚

📍 Seyðisfjörður: A rainbow street, colorful houses, and fjord views that feel straight out of a fairytale.

📍 Hengifoss Waterfall: One of Iceland’s tallest falls, framed by dramatic red and black rock layers. It’s 100% worth the hike in!

📍 Stokksnes: Back sand beach with rolling green hills and a gorgeous view of Vestrahorn mountain in the background. I’m smitten with this place!

📍 Stuðlagil Canyon: Huge basalt columns and turquoise glacial water, this canyon is a total showstopper. 😍

📍 Borgarfjörður Eystri: Iceland’s puffin capital, with wild hiking trails and a quiet harbor you’ll never want to leave.

📍 Vök Baths: Geothermal floating infinity pools with lake views and a swim-up bar. You can even take a cold plunge if you’re feeling brave! 😉

Which one of these are you most excited to add to your itinerary? 👇🏼

Landing in Iceland can feel like arriving on anoth Landing in Iceland can feel like arriving on another planet. 🪐

The roads stretch into the distance, the landscape feels vast and unfamiliar—and suddenly, your carefully planned trip feels a little shaky.

That’s exactly why I created my Iceland Maps + Guidebooks: to take away the second-guessing and help you feel grounded the moment you arrive. 😌

They cover everything from must-see stops and hidden gems to practical essentials like restrooms and gas stations.

But most importantly? They give you the kind of real-world Iceland know-how that makes all the difference once you’re actually here.

Because there’s nothing I love more than helping travelers turn that early uncertainty into the confidence to have the trip of a lifetime. 💚

If you’re planning a trip and feeling overwhelmed, I’ve got your back 💁‍♀️
