Map Access Tips
Most travelers won’t need this page. If your map isn’t opening or saving as expected, the fixes below usually resolve it quickly.
Before you start
- Make sure you are logged into Google Maps using the same email address you used to access the map
- If possible, try opening the map in a browser first, then in the Google Maps app
Check your Google Maps app version
Sometimes map access issues are caused by an outdated app.
To check your app version:
- Open the Google Maps app
- Tap your profile picture or account circle
- Tap Settings
- Tap About, terms & privacy
- Look for the app version number
Then:
- Visit the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android)
- Confirm you are using the latest version of Google Maps
- Update the app if needed
Restart the app and your device
A quick reset often fixes loading issues.
- Fully close the Google Maps app
- Restart your phone or tablet
- Reopen Google Maps
- Make sure you’re signed in with the correct Google account
Sign out and sign back in
If the map still isn’t appearing, logging out and back in can refresh access.
- Sign out of Google Maps
- Close the app completely
- Reopen Google Maps
- Sign back in using the email address associated with your map access
Reinstall the Google Maps app
This is rarely needed, but it resolves most stubborn issues.
- Delete the Google Maps app from your device
- Reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play Store
- Open Google Maps
- Sign in using the same email address you used to access the map
Still having trouble?
You can always access the map directly in a browser by copying and pasting the map link into your device’s web browser.
If that works, the map itself is fine and the issue is likely app-related.
