Should I book my accommodations before or after I purchase this itinerary?

It’s best to wait until after you purchase the itinerary to reserve accommodation so that you are in the right place each night to maintain the next day’s activities. 

Iceland has a reputation for being expensive. An Iceland has a reputation for being expensive.And YES, there are definitely some things here that might make you do a double take when you see the price.But knowing what to budget for ahead of time makes a HUGE difference.The problem with most trip budgets though, is that they don’t account for all of those little costs that hit you once you’re on the ground.You might budget for a rental car, but then forget to budget for insurance, parking fees, or the new 2026 road tax.Or maybe you’ve got a number in mind for food, only to realize that eating out (Iceland prices) will blow through that budget pretty quickly.And then there are the activities. It’s VERY easy to start adding things once you’re here, thinking to yourself, “Well…I came all the way to Iceland. Icelandic wind doesn’t play! This is one of those Icelandic wind doesn’t play!This is one of those things that you just can’t wrap your head around until you get here.“Windy” takes on a whole new meaning when you step out of the car and immediately get slapped in the face by a 50 mph gust. 😂This video is of my sister who COULD NOT close the door because it was so windy - and yes it still makes me laugh BUT it can also be a serious issue if you’re renting a car here.Because the wind in Iceland can cause some pretty major damage to your rental.In fact, it can get strong enough to straight up RIP a car door right off its hinges if you’re not careful!And that can leave you responsible for a very expensive repair if you don’t have the right coverage.This is one of the reasons I always recommend paying a little extra for good coverage when you rent a car in Iceland.I’ve used Blue Car Rental on countless occasions and always recommend them! The whole point of traveling to Iceland is to expe The whole point of traveling to Iceland is to experience somewhere that feels DIFFERENT. 🇮🇸And that means letting Iceland be Iceland. The weather won’t always cooperate with your plans, and sometimes seeing the places that make you go WOW requires venturing a little farther off the beaten path.So take the bumpy F-road that leads to that incredible view. Get in the hot spring even when it’s raining. And when winter brings those 4 PM sunsets, remember that all that darkness also means more time to chase the Northern Lights.Appreciate the little moments like these, where Iceland gets to show off all of her wild, rugged beauty.Because one day you’ll be back home, sitting in traffic or surrounded by buildings, and you’ll find yourself missing those roads in the middle of nowhere.
