Landing in Iceland in summer: premium window-seat Landing in Iceland in summer: premium window-seat content

Landing in winter: giving absolutely nothing but a black square in your camera roll 😂

Nearly all flights from the US arrive early in the morning. In winter, that means stepping off the plane into pitch black. 🌑

In January, sunrise in Reykjavík isn’t until 11am (sometimes later!). So unless your flight’s very delayed, don’t count on any dramatic glacier views from above.

Still magical once you’re on the ground...just manage those window seat expectations. 😅

Did this catch you off guard on your trip?

This might be the biggest blind spot I see when it This might be the biggest blind spot I see when it comes to Iceland trip planning…

People don’t realize how DRASTICALLY different winter and summer trips are.

The amount of daylight, which roads are open, what activities you can do…it all changes depending on when you visit.

👉🏼 Yet the itineraries people find online rarely account for these differences.

And that’s how people end up frustrated, behind schedule, or missing out on things they didn’t even know they should’ve planned for.

My Iceland itineraries are season-specific for this exact reason. Winter itineraries are built for shorter days, icy roads, and winter-only experiences like ice caves and northern lights. Summer itineraries take advantage of long daylight, access to the highlands, and summer-specific tours.

Ready to ditch the cookie-cutter plans and get an itinerary perfectly designed for the season you’re visiting? 🙋‍♀️

Comment “ICELANDPLAN” and I’ll send you all of the details on my season-specific itineraries! 👇🏼

A tiny Iceland traffic tip that feels genius once A tiny Iceland traffic tip that feels genius once you notice it… 🛑🟡🟢

In the U.S., yellow means slow down, because red is coming.

It means this in Iceland too, but yellow ALSO shows up *before* green.

When you’re sitting at a red light, it turns to yellow right before turning green. So instead of waiting in suspense, you get a little heads-up that it’s go-time. 🚦

It’s a small thing, but it helps you stay ready, so you’re not caught off guard when it flips to green.

Did anyone else notice this subtle change when driving in Iceland??

Someone recently hired me to review their Iceland Someone recently hired me to review their Iceland itinerary.

(Since being back at work post-maternity leave, I’ve been offering this service again and loving it!)

This particular couple had used AI to build their initial itinerary.

But they still weren’t sure if it was right for them…

Turns out, they were right to question it, because during my review I found some serious gaps.

While AI tools are amazing for brainstorming and getting started, there’s still a LOT they miss when it comes to the nuances of trip planning.

Things like:

👉🏼 Pacing that matches your travel style...not just cramming in as many stops as possible
👉🏼 Overnight locations that make sense for your route instead of adding hours of unnecessary driving
👉🏼 The practical stuff like where to grab food, fuel up, or take bathroom breaks along the way

These are the things that turn a trip that looks good on paper into one that works when you’re on the ground in Iceland.

My done-for-you Iceland Itineraries have all of this built in, so you can skip the guesswork and start with a plan that’s already been tested and refined.

Comment “ICELANDPLAN” for the link to check out my done-for-you Iceland itineraries👇🏼

P.S. Already have an itinerary and want an Iceland expert to review it before you book anything? Shoot me a DM and I’ll send you the details on my itinerary review service.

These were the things that shocked me the most whe These were the things that shocked me the most when I first arrived, and now they’re just a part of everyday life 💚

1 - How much time kids spend outdoors. Icelandic kids go outside daily no matter what - rain, wind, snow, darkness! Parents invest in high-quality clothing like full body rain/snowsuit, wool balaclavas and wool sweaters so their kids prioritize outdoor play in every season. You’ll almost never see plans canceled because of weather like in the US!

Oh, and babies napping outside in strollers? Completely normal. Yes, even in winter.

2 - The schooling for young kids feels less intense. In the U.S., testing and academic pressure starts early. Whereas in Iceland, they value play-based learning in early years. Here, kids get to be kids a little longer.

3 - Parenting feels more chill. Kids come along to dinners, errands and social gatherings. You rarely see parents and children fighting in public, and parents tend to speak calmly and lovingly. I think the kids are calmer because the adults around them are calmer.

4 - Work life balance protects families. Parents are more calm and present because the system supports them. In Iceland, work supports life instead of the other way around and there’s less burnout and hustle culture. Icelandic kids also have fewer scheduled activities and more free play. There’s no pressure to optimize every second of childhood.

5 - Safety. This one is huge. Guns aren’t part of society here, and crime rates are extremely low, so it’s safe in a way that feels almost unreal coming from the States. Kids walk to and from school. They cross streets on their own. They leave their bikes leaned against the school fence all day and nobody touches them. By primary school, kids are riding the bus to activities and buying their own snacks at concessions. And nobody bats an eye!

I’m so grateful my kids get to grow up here. They get to have a peaceful childhood...one where they can just be kids, explore freely, and feel safe. That’s something I never want to take for granted. 💚
